About Seidah Williams

Seidah Williams has been making art since before she had language for it. She has been healing people since long before she had credentials for it. The credentials came. The calling was always there.

She is a multidisciplinary healing artist — painter, natural hair stylist, tarot reader, holistic health consultant, iridologist, teaching artist, community organizer. Not because she could not choose, but because all of it is one thing: the work of bringing people back to

The Art

She came to painting through witness. Seventeen years as an artist assistant with Visions in Black, learning under Frank Frazier: how to see, how to hold a brush like it means something, how to put a feeling on canvas that a stranger can walk past and feel in their chest. She launched her own practice in 2016 and has not stopped since.

Her work is acrylic and mixed media. Her series, Positive Affirmations, RBG, Cosmic Womb, Eggun, are not decorative. They carry color frequencies, embedded intention, spiritual messages that move through the eye and into the body. She has shown in New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Hawaii, New Orleans, Little Rock, Dallas, Austin, and Miami. She has been on the floor at Art Basel. She has shown at Essence Music Festival, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Tom Joyner Cruise. Her work has been in rooms with the NAACP, the National Medical Association, the Congressional Black Caucus.

She paints because it heals. She shows because someone in that room needs to see themselves.

The Healing

She has been a certified holistic health consultant and iridologist since 2007, trained under Dr. Llaila Africa and Dr. Paul Goss at Total Wellness MBS in Dallas. She earned her Reiki I certification in 2020 under Dr. Akua Gray of the Life of Peace Wellness Institute.

Holistic health is not a side offering for her. It is the root system. She reads the body the way she reads a canvas: as a whole, as a language, as something with intelligence that deserves to be heard. The iris does not lie. The gut does not lie. She has been listening to both for nearly two decades.

The Teaching

Since 2013, she has shown up in classrooms, community centers, after-school programs, and workshops as a teaching artist. Through Creative Action and kidsActing Foundation, her work reaches more than eleven thousand young people every year. She teaches visual art, acting, singing, and dance as tools for self-expression, cultural identity, and healing, because she has seen what happens when a child is handed a brush, a script, a song, or a stage and told: this is yours, make something true.

The Organizing

She has been a community organizer for over a decade. She has worked with the All African People’s Revolutionary Party, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, the Jericho Movement, the Young Pioneers Institute, and the Black August Organizing Committee. She co-founded The People’s Lunch Counter and Guerrilla Mainframe in Dallas, organizations built on the conviction that self-love, health, self-defense, and cultural pride are not luxuries. They are the work. She is currently organizing with Community Movement Builders, continuing that same commitment in the present tense.

All of it, the painting, the healing, the teaching, the organizing, is one practice. The name for it is liberation. The method is beauty.

Her purpose is to use art as a catalyst for healing individuals, communities, and the environment.

She is honored to share her work as Manifestations of an Alkemist Empress.
